Missionvale Care Centre was established in 1988 by Sister Ethyl Normoyle, a member of the Little Company of Mary, in the extremely poor  informal shackland township of Missionvale on the outskirts of Port Elizabeth.

At the 2010 Liberty Medical Scheme Rhodes Trail Run each participant received two specially made Power Balance bags - one at registration, containing his/her space blanket, safety whistle, limited edition Buff® and other pre-race goodies, and a second bag on crossing the Finish line, with a 2010 First Ascent  Rhodes Run Switchblade shirt, medal, drink and bottle of sherry.

The Power Balance bags were specially made under contract for the run by the Craft Unit at Missionvale Care Centre. The bags, made from donated material, were hand made and not only provided a meaningful source of income for the Craft Unit, but will be long time practical mementos of the run for the runners.
