Thanks for a fantastic experience in the Rhodes snow. I remember people saying that last year was the most extreme version of the Rhodes Marathon, but this year holds the all time record. Wonder what will happen next year .... Thanks for providing an alternative, safe route, without compromising on the nature of the race. Thanks for the well-organized water tables and support along the way, for continuing with this special event even without sponsors. ~ (Sabine Verkuijl - East London)

I would like to take this opportunity to thank and congratulate you on a job well done, especially under such challenging conditions. Rhodes 2002 will certainly stay in my memory banks as one of the best runs and weekends ever. ~ (Rob Jackson - Johannesburg)

I was disappointed to hear about the new route at the race briefing Friday evening as I have developed quite a love/hate relationship with Mavis Bank over the last few years but was pleasantly surprised at the new course. There was quite a bit of interest with the front runners passing the plebs as we were able to monitor the blows/surges. The slippery conditions caused a few muscle aches that I've never had before! A big thank you to all the helpers at the watering tables as well as the people that prepared the delicious food. ~ (Chel Gassner - East London)

On behalf of Achilles AAA I would like to thank you for organizing the Rhodes Marathon. I know that Mother Nature was not kind to your plans but as an athlete the conditions were simply wonderful. ~ (Craig Wilson - Port Elizabeth)

The Rhodes Ultra Marathon has unfortunately been relegated on my list of favourite races, at the top of my list stands an event that became a classic before it even started - the RHODES MARATHON. ~ (Gavin Durell - Cape Town)

It may never take place again, but this makes it even more special to all those who contributed to or participated in this unique event. We are after all, the RHODES CLASS OF 2002. Runners come to Rhodes each year for many different reasons but the one they all have in common is SNOW. There is something special about African snow, I am not sure what it is, but it is magical. It transforms places and people and in this case turned a great event into something truly outstanding. It could so easily have been very different. The race could have been cancelled had the organizers been a little less courageous. The fact that we even had a race is a tribute to you all. It was a privilege to take part in this event. Thank you to all involved in making this event happen. In particular I would like to thank Darrell whose cheerful enthusiasm encouraged me to climb in my car and drive to Rhodes despite the weather warnings and stories of snowed in villages and closed access roads. Thank you for all the effort put into this event that sent hundreds of people home with happy memories of a day that they will never forget. ~ (Iain Morshead - Johannesburg)
