I've done 3 runs on the "old" route. Ialso did the 2002 changed route but I am a novice on the "new" route.

The runners' views on the Hooggenoeg section seem to be mixed but with the word "tough" featuring prominently. Can anyone give me an idea of how much extra time to allow for that section?

Hi Chris, depends on how you feature with offroad running. Its the same type of terrain as the kloof. It is a toughie...also depends on how fit you are. It slowed my time by about 15minutes. Its so much better than the dirt road.....just watch your footing as there are many holes and you dont see them with the grass.Just take it easy there and enjoy.X

Hey Chris. I think Tammy is being a bit modest here. She fails to mention that she is normally one of the first dozen runners home. For the rest of us mere mortals you can look at adding closer to half an hour extra on to your previous times.....depending on how much snow we are going to encounter along that section it could be really slow going and you will hardly run a step along that section......but it is far more fun than trotting along the road. Enjoy.

Hi Patrick. Yes I guessed which Tammy was replying and took her advice with a large pinch of salt! I am looking forward to the new section but with a bit of nervousness... I'll be at or near the back of the field as usual so hopefully the faster ones will clear a nice path through the snow for me :-)

Hi Tammy. Thanks for the advice. I don't need a twisted ankle! I'm looking forward to it - the dirt road was quite boring. Good luck for your race. Heard you're taking it easy this year?
